Business & Using Dreams

A bit of business before the post of the day.

Those that write this blog are not techno-whiz kind of people. I, myself, am barely computer literate (I can't type either) but I am an alcoholic so of course I did not allow these things to deter me from writing for a blog! Someone asked if I wanted to do this and I said "yes" without taking a moment's pause to consider reality.
Whoever heard of an alcoholic that let something paltry, like a lack of knowledge or experience, interfere with their wants? Tell me that you've never done the same thing. Yeah, right.

What all this means is that the font size might vary from day to day. I understand that some of you are irritated with this major change in format, but we are not doing it to upset you. We are also not going to tar and feather any of our writers for not keeping the font size uniform. Still unhappy? Talk to your sponsor about it. If you don't have a sponsor, get one today. Obviously you have already waited too long to seek direction from someone with experience.

Moving on (or not, for those with control issues). Today's topic is using dreams. We've all had them (well, maybe not you, if you are still unique). They come in several different flavors: You are drunk or high; you are drinking or using; you are about to drink or use; someone is trying to make you drink or use; people you know are in the recovery program ETA are drinking or using; you are at some function or social event where everyone except you is drunk, drinking or high; or some variation of all these things.

They can be frightening or merely scarifying. Most of these dreams help get your heart rate up over 100 and keep it there for 15 minutes or more. The first one I experienced, I woke up screaming and demanding that my husband not let me leave the house. He got to experience the terror and cardiac effect, too, and, although he never said so, I'm sure he feels richer for the experience.

Many people think the dreams signify a glitch in their sobriety; something they are not doing right. Many say they come around a sobriety milestone. Many say they are a sign of impending relapse. Many say they are just part of being alcoholic. And I'm sure that many say they are something else entirely.

I believe that drinking or using dreams are gifts from the old HP. You get all the guilt and shame of boozing and using without having to change your sobriety date.

Have a good and sober day.
