Song Day! Stop Draggin' My Heart Around by Stevie Nicks

This has been one of my favorite songs since the first time I heard it. The way it has been changed to reflect alcoholism and drug addiction is a little different than most of my earlier re-writes. Think of the song as a conversation between the addict and the substance. The addict's words are in italics. The words of the substance are in bold. My changes are in capitol letters.

Stop Draggin' My Heart Around by Stevie Nicks

Baby you come knocking on my front door
Same old line you used to use before
I said yeah, well, what am I supposed to do
I didn't know what I was getting into

So you've had a little trouble in town

Now you're WANTING TO QUIET ME down? ha!
Stop draggin' my...
Stop draggin' my...
Stop draggin' my heart around

It's hard to think about what I'D wanted

It's hard to think about what I'VE lost
This doesn't have to be the big get even
This doesn't have to be anything at all

I know you really want to tell me good-bye

I know you really want to be your own girl

Baby you could never look me in the eye

Yeah you buckle with the weight of the words
Stop draggin' my...
Stop draggin' my...
Stop draggin' my heart around

There's STUFF THAT'S running 'round loose in THIS world

Ain't got nothing better to do
Than make a meal of some bright eyed kid
SOMEONE NEEDS TO PUT A STOP TO YOU

I know you really want to tell me good-bye

I know you really want to be your own girl

Baby you could never look me in the eye

Yeah you buckle with the weight of the words
Stop draggin' my...
Stop draggin' my...
Stop draggin' my heart around

Stop draggin' my heart around

Have a good and sober day.

  1. Very cool. I like the give-and-take between addict and substance. I think I may have had that conversation, before...
